Dr. Barkhi has taught at Virginia Tech, the University of Massachusetts, and The Ohio State University.

His teaching portfolio includes Management Information Systems, Advanced Database Management Systems, Decision Theory, Operations Management, Statistics for Management, Business Application Development, Telecommunication Systems, and Ph.D. Research Seminar.

He has been both a seasoned academic and a practitioner of software development.

Dr. Barkhi is one of the founding members of the Center for Global Electronic Commerce at Virginia Tech. He is also a faculty advisor to the Information System Society student club in the department of Accounting & Information Systems at Virginia Tech.

Dr. Barkhi’s current research emphases are in the areas of the design of GDSS and Organizational Integration Systems, distributed decision making, design of telecommunication networks, and economics of information systems.

He has several journal articles that have appeared in journals like Journal of Management Information Systems, Decision Support Systems, European Journal of Operational Research, Group Decision and Negotiation Journal, Journal of Educational Technology Systems, Computers, and OR, Engineering Applications in Artificial Intelligence. He is a member of the Association for Information Systems (AIS), The Institute of Operations Research and Management Science (INFORMS), and Decision Sciences Institute (DSI).

Dr. Barkhi is on the Editorial Board of Computers & OR Journal and has served as an ad hoc reviewer for many other journals such asDecision Support Systems, Decision Sciences, Management Science, European Journal of Operational Research, Operations Research, INFORMS Journal on Computing, and Computers & OR among others. He has also reviewed proposals for the National Science Foundation. He has served on the Program Committee of INFORMS Conference on Information Systems and Technology (CIST) and the Program Committee of Workshop on Information Technology Systems (WITS).
